The Story: Ron Harris
Ron "Chopper" Harris was known as a hard and fair defender in his best
days at Chelsea. Played in all the great teams of the 60's and 70's that
won the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners Cup.
Despite being a profiled player and one to trust in big games he was
never selected to play for England. He captained the Chelsea team on
several occasions.
He played 655 league games for Chelsea and with that the player with the
record at the club. He is also one of very few to have played for the
club in three different decades, spending 19 years at Stamford Bridge.
The 1970 FA Cup final will for always be what Harris will be most
rememberd for when his tackling against Leeds gave Chelsea an advantage
and finally gave them win the in the replay at Old Trafford.
Harris left Chelsea in 1980 and had a three year spell with Brentford. |
