Carragher in England squad, who will make the final 23

Fabio Capello has selected his first 30 players including a number of surprises with Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher ready to come back to international action after three years.

England had a great qualification and Capello showed his capacity with his selection of players. Players that has special skills were used to bring home the results.

This is also a fact when you look at the 30 players chosen in the first step. 7 players will be axed and the final 23 will be announced on the 1st of June.

Jamie Carragher was one of the surprises, but we believe that the Liverpool defender will go all the way and make the squad. Why, because he is experienced and he can cover in three different positions.

Carragher is a brilliant central defender, but he can also play at right back and defensive midfield. He is a player you can put on in the end of games to secure results.

The three goalkeepers chosen are more or less expected with Joe Hart a bit of a surprise. Hart has been magnificant for Birmingham all season, and Capello gives him the place based on recent form.

David James and Robert Green were both in the squad and one of the two will be first choice during the World Cup. James, Green and Hart are a good selection and all of them will make the final 23.

Capello has a steady defence with Glen Johnson, Les Ferdinand, John Terry and Ashley Cole the preferred line up. Maybe one of the best defence in the World Cup. Matthew Upson, Jamie Carragher and Leighton Baines will be the covers. Michael Dawson and Stephen Warnock will be axed, with King an alternative if Capello decides to bring eight defenders.

The surprise in this party is Baines, but his season with Everton has been magnificant and the former Wigan player can be a good cover for Cole. King will be picked on experience in front of Dawson.

Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Gareth Barry and Theo Walcott will be selected. The fact that Barry was included in the 20 men squad means that Capello will gamble on his fitness and take him to South Africa.

To pick the other four midfielders is a bit tricky. Carrick is quality, Huddlestone has been fantastic all season and Adam Johnson is one of the most exciting young players in the Premier League.

Among those other midfielders it looks likely that James Milner will go and Aaron Lennon will get a place with his pace and attacking style. Joe Cole is also a player that should be in. Shaun Wright-Phillips must be regarded as a surprise pick, even among the 30 and would see it strange if he makes it.

Up front it is a certainty that Wayne Rooney will be in. Darren Bent should be in there as well, but he could be axed. Heskey and Crouch has so much special quality that we believe both of them will be included. Capello could give 5 forwards the chance and just pick either 7 defenders or 7 midfielders.

Here is what we believe will be the 23 going to South Africa

Goalkeepers: James, Green, Hart
Defenders: G Johnson, Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher, Upson, Baines
Midfielders: Lampard, Gerrard, Walcott, Barry, Milner, Lennon, A Johnson, Huddlestone
Forwards: Defoe, Bent, Heskey, Crouch, Bent
